Do you have the right Insurance cover?

Oct 8, 2013

By Liz Walker, Insurance Adviser, AustBrokers Comsure.

It is vital that your Insurance Adviser knows exactly what business activities you are doing.

As Insurance Advisers, it is important for us to understand all the Business activities you do, so that the Insurance Cover can be tailored to meet all of your needs.

Sometimes a client may describe their business as (by example) a “Lawn Mowing” business, but forget to advise us that they also do gardening and landscaping work.

Insurer’s need a full description of the work undertaken, so (for the above example) they can include cover for Lawn Mowing, Gardening and Landscaping. If the full list of activities are not disclosed, this may mean there is no insurance in place for that particular activity.

It is vital that your Insurance Adviser asks this question, and confirms these activities with the Insured. Likewise, it is equally important that the client discloses exactly what they do, and not assume one classification covers all of their activities.

Insurance documentation such as a Certificate of Currency, should also clearly show all activities undertaken, so the client knows what they are covered for and the recipient of the Certificate of Currency can see exactly what the Insurance Policy (i.e. Public and Products Liability) covers.
