It’s only October & Storm Season is here!

Oct 29, 2013

AustBrokers Comsure wants to remind you to clean out your gutters and prepare for this year’s summer season. Not only has New South Wales been faced with fierce bush fires, today is yet another reminder that storms are on their way.

According to Weather-Zone, Brisbane and Sydney CBD’s have so far just missed out on wild thunderstorms affecting town after town in between.

Severe thunderstorms have brought damaging wind gusts, large hail, heavy rain and an increase in road accidents to North Eastern New South Wales and Southeast Queensland.

In QLD, a gusty thunderstorm brought 7mm in 10 minutes to Amberley, with gusts to 72km/h and a temperature drop of eight degrees in 20 minutes. This storm is now moving onto Stradbroke Island as it heads offshore. But this won’t be the last storm in Southeast Queensland today.

Another cell reached Newcastle at 3pm producing over 15mm, with 9mm in only 10 minutes. This cell earlier brought 17mm in 10 minutes to Tocal in the upper Hunter.

Brisbane still faces the risk of thunderstorms today and for the rest of the week. Skies will clear briefly before the next band of showers and storms move into the region.

The State Emergency Service recommends that people move cars under cover or away from trees, secure loose items and keep clear of fallen power lines.

Ahead of Storm Season, clear out your gutters, clean up your backyards, and most importantly keep your family safe. You can never be too prepared ahead of the severe weather warnings.
