Road Safety Warning

Sep 22, 2016

During Queensland’s Road Safety Week and as part of the ‘Share the Road’ message, RACQ has issued a Road Safety Warning to all drivers to be vigilant around trucks, with the latest figures showing an over-representation of fatalities involving heavy vehicles.

Last year, heavy vehicles accounted for less than three percent of all vehicles registered in our State and yet they represented more than 20 percent of all road fatalities (49 deaths).

This year, the trend isn’t improving so it’s important to educate motorists about how to properly share the road with trucks.

Queensland Trucking Association CEO Gary Mahon agreed motorists needed to be more aware of the differences between cars and heavy vehicles.

The RACQ has released its latest campaign video (supported by the Queensland Trucking Association) about heavy vehicle safety, which can be viewed below.

“Every truck driver has a family too. Slow down around trucks, respect the difference between cars and heavy vehicles and give them the space they need.”

We ask that you please SHARE this blog to help spread the word.
