Gold Coast Commonwealth Games has prompted Travel Insurance discussion!

Feb 28, 2018

How exciting has the 2018 winter Olympics been?

Not only has it been fascinating to watch each sport, it has also created some serious anticipation for Queenslander’s who will live and breathe the Commonwealth Games in a few weeks.

From the 4th of April through to the 15th of April, the Gold Coast (including some events in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville) will experience the thrill of the games in various venues across the state.

If you’re lucky enough to have tickets, what an exciting time it will be to witness what will be a wonderful sporting event in Australian history! Thrilling sporting action coupled with unique culture and entertainment, and of course our magnificent weather and surrounds, will put Queensland on the world stage for 11 incredible days.

For those wanting to avoid the sudden chaos, it’s estimated around 1.5 million spectators, busier roads (suggested to leave the car at home), busier public transport routes (approximately 1000 extra buses), the hike in accommodation prices including general goods over the next couple of months, has seen a spike of holiday goers thinking it’s a great time to escape the State – if they have no reason to stay and enjoy the action of course!

Affective tonight, we see the first of many changes to take place, including a change in road conditions locally and on highways, and in particular reducing the speed aimed to improve safety and reduce congestion in the lead up to and during the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Find more info here.

Furthermore, it’s the winter Olympics that’s prompted us to talk about Travel Insurance and the reasons why it’s so important to review the cover you have, or the lack of cover, before jumping on the plane to escape.

Just one look at the highlights (or lowlights) reel of the best spills, stacks and tumbles at PyeongChang, it’s easy to realise that accidents can happen – even if you’re a snow sports expert.

So, depending on your destination, travel Insurance can be extended to cover most activities, including snow sports, however this is not always an automatic inclusion. If you’re heading on that exciting holiday, make sure AustBrokers Comsure is on your to-do-list to discuss travel insurance arrangements and staying safe over the extent of your trip.

An “off the shelf” policy may seem like the right idea at the time, however when it comes to a claim, it’s often found the cover isn’t enough, or it is not what you thought it was, and you’re left to fight it on your own.

We also found it important to compare the difference between “credit card travel insurance” (free travel insurance), and how it stacks up against “standalone travel insurance” and why you should be skeptical without actual advice from your AustBrokers Comsure Adviser.

We hear many horror stories, and that’s the last thing anyone wants whilst on holiday. So if you’re heading to the Commonwealth Games to experience the action and thrill this coming April, or holidaying someplace else, be sure to contact AustBrokers Comsure on 1800 122 194 to discuss your Travel Insurance requirements.
