Bruno Cullen (AM)


Bruno was chair of Townsville-based Qld Country Bank (formerly Qld Country Credit Union) from 2006 until April 2020, when he stepped down from the chair but remained a director until November 2020. He chairs the registered training organisation Krause Health & Safety and was a director of private health insurer Qld Country Health for 20 years. From 2003 to 2011, Bruno was Managing Director of the Brisbane Broncos Football Club and chaired the board of the Broncos Leagues Club from 2008 to 2014. He is a former chair of the Qld Academy of Sport. Bruno was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2020 Queens Birthday Honours List for his services to banking and credit unions, rugby league, and the community.

Ian Garbutt

Managing Director

Ian has a wealth of insurance knowledge gained from 25+ years’ experience in the insurance industry, including claims, workers’ compensation, pricing, underwriting and sales. Ian joined Bestmark Insurance Brokers in February 2018, having previously worked for CGU Insurance as Qld State Manager. Before that, he was CGU’s Qld Claims Manager and managed the insurer’s response to large catastrophe events, including the 2011 Brisbane-Ipswich floods, Cyclone Yasi in 2011, and the Bundaberg floods in 2013. Ian is a keen sports enthusiast.

Steve Hamill

Director, Risk Management

Steve has experience that expands over 35 years in national and international broking firms. He is a qualified Practicing Insurance Broker and a Certified Risk Manager with the Risk Management Institute of Australasia. Steve is a Director of Austbrokers Comsure, Austbrokers Member Services and a non-executive director of the Procare Group.

Kathryn Timmis

Director, Operations

Kathryn has more than 25 years experience in general insurance, risk management, and operations across all areas of broking and underwriting agencies. Her broad skill set includes governance, regulation, compliance, risk, and the development and implementation of extensive AFS change management. She is a proponent of continuous improvement in the insurance industry and has delivered structural change programs that integrate and balance regulatory requirements with business objectives. Kathryn holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology, and an Advanced Diploma of Insurance Broking. She is an ANZIIF Senior Associate and Certified Insurance Professional; a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Compliance Institute.

Stewart Harker


Stewart worked for Citycover for more than 35 years before the merger into Austbrokers Comsure. He began there as an office junior and, in 1997, became the Administration Manager. Stewart became a Qualified Professional Insurance Broker in 2004, is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, and has an Advanced Diploma in Insurance Broking. Stewart’s methods are based on integrity and honesty and he does his utmost to understand his clients’ needs in order to meet their insurance and risk management needs.

Mark White

Director, AUB representative

Mark is Partner Development Manager at Austbrokers. He joined Austbrokers in 2015 from Allianz, where he was State Manager – Vic/Tas Broker and Agency. He has held senior management roles throughout his career, including Chief Operating Officer at iiNet; General Manager – Strategy and Marketing for the RAC of WA; and Marketing Manager – Life at Suncorp. Mark has an MBA from the University of WA, a Graduate Diploma of Insurance Broking through ANZIIF, and is an AICD Member. He provides governance, financial and strategic support to Austbrokers members.

Mike Ambrosini

Executive Director

Mike has 55 years industry experience, having worked with major insurers, including Zurich, QBE, Suncorp and Allianz. He has held senior executive roles, including Queensland and Northern Territory branch manager, for several insurers and was the CTP & Dealer General Manager at Allianz before joining Austbrokers Comsure in 2018. Mike is a Fellow and Life Member of the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Insurance & Finance (ANZIIF). He has served on the ANZIIF board, been president of the Queensland division, chair of three key ANZIIF councils, and a member of the national working party that oversaw ANZIIF’s restructure in 2000. He has lectured in marine insurance at TAFE, chaired the Brisbane Marine Discussion Group, and been vice chair of the Australian Hull Pool Underwriting Committee. Initially a marine specialist, Mike has since worked extensively in compulsory third party and motor dealership insurance.
